Betty Grant, victim of poisoning

1954 - Poisoned man sees police.: Mr Arthur Ford, 44, was discharged from hospital today after treatment for suspected poisoning. He was met by detectives investigating the deaths of two girl typists at the office which he manages. Mr. Ford, who the police believe may be able to hep their inquiries, went in a police car to Alphany Street Police station. The girls, Betty Grant, 27, of Chobham Gardens, Wimbledon, and June Malins, 19, former seaside beuty queen, of Wightman-Grove, Harringay, died in hospital on Tuesday after eating coconut ice at the office of manufacturing chemists in Euston Road. Mr. Ford, of Bath-road, Hounslow, was taken to University College Hospital after eating some of the coconut ice. Tests by police scientists on pieces of coconut ice found on Miss Grant's desk and samples taken from the shop where it was bought showed that it was harmless. The police have traced the poison - an emotional stimulant, which killed the girls, but are keeping its descrption secret. Photo shows Miss Betty Grant - one of the dead girls
