Feb. 02, 1944 - Montecassino Rebuilt Be Re-Consecrated By The Pope: On February 15th, 1944, the beautiful abbey of Montecassino, perched on its illtop above the town of Cassino, and held by the Germans was completely destroyed by Allied Aircraft - an much of the town below with it. Today both are rebuilt and the Abbey is to be reconseortated by the Pope in June. But there are still many reminders of the destruction of that day there is the tank, still standing by the roadside in Cassino, left there since 1944, there are the giant heaps of rubble, the remains of the old Abbey, at the foot of the new one, there is the Polish cemetery.
