Aug. 08, 1953 - Holy Carpets on way to Mecca: The start of the journey of the Holy carpets from Abbasaiya, near Cairo, was recently attended by General Neguib. New carpets are made each year and sent to be placed on the tomb of Al Kaaba at Mecca. For the first time, the Holy carpets were carried in procession instead of going by camels as in previous years. The embroidery on the carpets is made of silver and gold thread. photo shows The scene as the Holy carpets start on the procession from Abbassiya, on to way to Mecca
