Aug. 02, 1958 - Archbishop Makarios Asks Prince Peter To Become Prospective High Commissioner Of Cyprus.: Rumours circulating in Greece have it that Archbishop Makarios has approached the popular Prince Peter of Greece - offering him the pose of prospective High Commissioner of Cyprus. This action of Makarios is based on the precedent - i.e. Prince Peter's father - the late Prince George of Greece, served as High Commissioner on Crete Island until 1912 - when the Cretans, after a long struggle won their freedom form Turkish domination when the Island was united to the Greek Motherland. Prince Peter is related to the Royal Houses of Denmark - Norway and the Romanos. His father - and the Duke of Edinburgh's father were brothers. Photo shows Recent picture of Prince Peter of Greece
