Aug. 08, 1964 - Modern Style Habits For 45, 000 Nuns. First Chance Since 1633: The Biggest community of Nuns in the Roman Catholic Church have had their habits redesigned. They are the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, who number about 45, 000. The modern habit was designed by the Mother General of the Order at its Headquarters in Paris. It will be worn from September 20th. and it is the first time that the habits have been changed sibce the order was founded in 1633. The new Style is shorter than the old ankle length habit - made of wool and terylene instead of wool only. The main Change is the much smaller head- dress.
