Sep. 09, 1969 - An Unusual Trip Round The Island: With the departure of the hippy hordes, the Isle of Wight is slowly recovering from the shock of invasion by 150, 000 happy people - and the more traditional Island pursuits are under way again - like the village fates and carnivals. But it is perhaps a little unusual to see a nun taking this sort of trip round the island. That wire shape represents the island's outline. The metal ring she holds so concentratedly must not make contact or a buzzer goes and the game is over. When the camera shutter clicked, Sister Luke, of St. Winifred's convent, Totland Bay, was just navigating the River Medium (that's the Cowes Week centre). She came to grief however, further along the rugged coastline. It happened at a local fate and Sister Luke's trip cost her sixpence. All in a good cause though. Proceeds were for the village's Catholic Church of St. Saviour's
