1970 - Blessing of The Seas At Margate. A ceremony took place today at Margate, Kent, when Dignitaries of the Greek Orthodox Church in Great Britain, accompanied by Dignitaries of the Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches, performed a Blessing of the Seas ceremony, at the Marine Sun Deck Tidal Pool, Margate. At the ceremony the Rural Dean of Thanet (Rev. Canon F.W. Phillips M.C. B.A. R.D.), represented the Lord Bishop of Canterbury. He joined His Eminence the Lord Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain (His Eminence Athenagoras) and other Greek Orthodox Dignitaries from London. The ceremony concluded with His Eminence casting a Crucifix into the sea in memory of Christ's Baptism.
