Oct. 06, 1972 - The Case of the Lincoln painting: The court of Arches, the Church of England's appeal court, is considering the case of the Lincoln painting. The hearing in the crypt of St. Mary-le-Bow Church, is to decide whether St. Helen's Church at Brant Broughton, Lincolnshire, should sell the painting of the Ascension the work of the German artist the Meister of Leisborn, dated about 1480 and now valued at ?40, 000. In 1887, Canon F.H. Sutton presented the church, os which he was rector, with the painting to mark years of restoration work. The Rev. Robin Clark, now rector of St. Helen's with the churchwardens and members of the parish, wish to sell the painting but some parishioners are opposed to its sale.
