Jan. 06, 1975 - New Bishop at Bristol consecrated at Southwark Cathedral by Archbishop of Canterbury: Professor Ernest John Tinsley, 56, Hon Canon of Ripon, was consecrated Bishop of Bristol by the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr. Coggan, today in Southwark Cathedral. Canon Tinsley has occupied the Chair of Theology at Leeds University since 1962, previously having held pastoral appointments in the Northern province.
