May 05, 1980 - Archbishop leads Pilgrims at Walsingham: 15, 000 pilgrims led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Robert Runcie, gathered at Walsingham, Norfolk, yesterday to give thanks for the life of that an Anglican Primate officiated at the ceremony: an outdoor Solemn Mass was celebrated in the Abbey grounds. Protestors demonstrated banners.The Duchess of Kent, who lives nearby at Anmer, sat with other pilgrims and queued to receive Communion.
