Mar. 21, 1954 - The entry that was founding a Barn. Record entry in pioneer motor cycle run: A record entry of 231 riders took part in the annual pioneer run from London to Brighton for motor cycles of historical interest. The motor cycle were in the three classes for the run at least 49 years old, at least 46 years old and at least 39 years old. The event started from Country Hall, Westminster. Photo Shows Mr. James P. Smith of Branshaw, Oakworth, Keighley, rode the most extraordinary machine in the race. It is an actual original, as invented and patented by William Slinger of Settle in 1901, and it should be described perhaps as a motor tricycle, for it has three wheels in line, two small ones in front and a rear wheel of normal size. On the handlebar above the two small front wheels is a little motor and patrol tank. Mr. Slinger never reproduced this prototype because designers were now turning to the two wheeled machines. Mr. Smith got the Slinger three years ago from a Settle antiquarian. It had been found cast away in a barn and it took much labour to get it into running order
