Billy Smart's Circus, modern Noah's Ark, London

Oct. 10, 1960 - Modern Noah's ark sails down the thames: A modern Noah's Ark sailed down the Thames today. The occasion was a reception to launch the special star gala performance of the Billy Smart Circus at Blackheath, on October 19th to aid the Variety Club of Great Britain, the children's charity organisation. Noah's Ark in this instance was the river boat Queen Elizabeth, which left from the Festival Pier, Festival Hall. The animals embarked two by two, and included elephants, lions, camels, llamas and chimpanzees. Also aboard were artistes of the Billy Smart Circus in their colourful costumes.
