Bishop Adamski rearrested in Poland

Oct. 10, 1956 - Bishop Adamski Re-Arrested in Poland: It has been announced that Bishop Adamski has been re-arrested in Poland. The Bishop and his auxiliary Bishop Bieniek were arrested in November 1952. The official communique gave the reason as they had circulated among the faithful of their diocese instructions that they should and could approach the authorities to keep religious education in primary and secondary schools. No trial was ever held and the bishops were kept in detention. After the Amnesty in 1956 the authorities were approached and Marian Rybicki the public prosecutor officially advised Bishops Adamski and Bieniek there were no charges against them and they were released. They went to Kaowice and wrote to the Bishop administrating the diocese in his absence - and advised him he would take over control of the diocese. The next thing is that both Bishops were rearrested and informed that the re-arrest was because Bishop Adamski had broken the decree of February 1953 dealing with the control of State over Church appointments.
