Black Christ painting on display at Christian Action, London
Nov. 28, 1962 - Banned Black Christ on show: The painting The Black Christ by black artist Harrison which has been smuggled out of South Africa where it is banned went on show today at the headquarters of Christian Action in London. The symbolic Crucifixion scene shows Christ as a black man with the face of Nobel Prize winner ex-chief Albert Lutuli. Photo shows Canon Collins, Chairman of Christian Action, with the painting pointing out the faces of the Roman soldiers to represent those of South African Premier Dr Verwoerd (lower) and Minister of Justice B. Vorster
