Nov. 11, 1969 - Blessing of marriage of Sex-change bride: A bride who used to be a man, and her husband yesterday went to the ancient church of St. Clement in Hastings, Sussex, where their marriage was blessed by a rector. The bridge, 32 year old Mrs. Dawn Simmons, was wuther Gordon Langley Hall until a sex change operation in September last year. Her bridegroom, 21 year old garage mechanic John Paul Simmons, married her last year in the drawing room of her home in Charleston, South Carolina. The marriage was blessed yesterday by the Rev. Thomas Savins, who knew Mrs. Simmons because he used to be the vicar of Heathfield, Sussex, where she was born. Later, at a reception Mrs. Simmons said I am Church of England and I wanted out marriage blessed in my church. We couldn't be married in church in Charleston.
