Sep. 09, 1956 - Donald Campbell breaks his own world water speed record, Bluebird reaches 286MPH. Donald Campbell has done it again. He astonished the World last night when he smashed his own World water speed record in his jet boat Bluebird in a death defying dash of 286.78 MPH on Lake Coniston. On his second run, as Bluebird rolled, bounced and sneaked, he was forced to cit his speed to 164.48mph because fumes filled his cockpit, but it was enough to break the World record for the third time in 15 months at over 225 mph. Photo shows: Donald Campbell's wife Dorothy seen with their daughter Georgina in a speed boat at Lake Coniston. It was a special treat for Georgina because yesterday was her 10th birthday, the day when she saw her father break the World water speed record
