He astonished the world last night when the smashed his owned world. water speed record in his jet-boat Bluebird in a death-defying dash of 286.78 m.p.h. on Lake Coniston. On his second run, as bluebird rolled, bounced, and snaked, he was forced to cut his peed to 164.48 m.p.h. because fumes filled his cockpit, but it was enough to break the world record for the third time in 15 months at over 225 m.p.h.
