Apr. 17 30 Year Old Manchester Businessman Sets Out To Break World Water Speed Record.: Tony Fahley, a 30 year old business man from Manchester, is preparing to make an attempt on the World R6 water speed record, which at present stands at 120.45.mph. He will also be going for the world, one and two hour endurance records. All the attempts will take place on Lake Windermare, during this month. Tony's hydroplane, Miss Windemere V, is powered by a Jaguar XJ5.3 engine which, it is hoped, will reach up to speeds of between 150 and 175 m.p.h Other members of Tony's team include the engineer of the late Norman Buckley Obe. Arthur Handerson and also Jaguar engineer, Phil Weaver, who advised Norman Buckley on many of his Jaguar engine record attempts. Phil has come out of his recent retirement, in order to assists with this project. Tony's powerboat career has been brief but very successful. He began five years ago with Formula one catermarans and quickly moved to the top in the European formula ondriving scene. Tony is noted for his aggression to push his boat to capacity and beyond. and he has survived three 100mpm, crashes and knows only too wall the risks that he runs.If he succeeds with his new attempts. Tony will become the fastest man on water in the UK since Donald Campbell in 1967 and the faster in the world since 1969 Much will depend on whether Tony can pull his team of engineers and advisors together. If he does, then there is every chances that Britain may well be able to recapture the glorious reputation that was built by the Campbells
