Jan. 01, 1967 - Donald Campbell killed in World Water Speed Record attempt.: Donald Campbell was killed today in Bluebird, whilst making an attempt on his world water speed record of 276.33 m.p.h. on Coniston Water this morning. Whilst making his return run at more than 300 m.p.h. Bluebird suddenly leapt into the air, somersaulted backwards, and sank.
