1968 - Spirit of Cutty Sark - entry for trans-Atlantic race, under sail for first time today: Spirit of Cutty Sark - a 53ft. glass fiber yacht, one of the entries in the 1968, single-handed, Trans-Atlantic Race - was under sail for the first time today - at Gosport, Hants. Organized by the Royal Western Yacht Club, the race will start from Plymouth on June 1st. Some 30 competitors from nine countries will face over 3, 000 miles of racing across the Atlantic to the finish at Newport, Rhode Island. At the helm of Spirit of Cutty Sark will be LIEUT.
