Dec. 12, 1966 - LONE BRITISH YACHTSMAN NEARS AUSTRALIAN PORT ON HIS ROUND-THE-WORLD VOYAGE: Lone British yachtsman, 65-year-old Francis Chichester, who has been 99 days at sea in his 53-fit. ketch Gypsy Moth IV on his round-the-world voyage was spotted by an aircraft in the Base Strait, Victoria, as he battled his way for Sydney. Chichester hoped to reach there in 100-days from Britain - the average time taken by the last century's wool clippers. He is not now expected to make Sydney until mid-week.
