May 05, 1968 - Preparing to face the Atlantic Alone: On Saturday (June 1), 43 yachts from 10 countries, with 3, 000 miles of lonely Atlantic ahead of them set out from Plymouth single-handed for Newport, Rhode Island. Yesterday yachtsmen were stowing gear and stores in readiness for the start.
