Jun. 06, 1968 - Big-Air Sea Rescue Operation Begins After Dramatic Distress Signal Yachtsman In Atlantic Race: A dramatic air-sea rescue operation began in the Atlantic today after a distress signal was picked up from Frenchman Joan De Kat in his trimaran Yaksha, a competitor in the lone-Translation yacht race. His message, which said, the yacht was breaking up, came early today when he was 600 miles West of Ireland. All shipping in the area have been alerted.
