Jun. 06, 1968 - The start of the single-Handed Transatlantic Yacht race from Plymouth. 35 yachts set out from Plymouth yesterday on the 3, 000-mile single-handed race across the Atlantic to Newport, Rhode Island. The race started in almost flat calm and pouring rain. Photo Shows Commdt. B. Waquet ( France ) tries to get his Sloop ( Tri ) Tamoure moving by using a sweep soon after the start. In the background is the sloop Opus, ( U.K.) crewed by bank manager B.T.A. Cooke
