Jun. 26, 1968 - Only Women Taking Part In The Lone Atlantic Yacht Race In Trouble Off The Azores; Edith Baumann, 26 year old German and the only women taking part in the single handed Atlantic yacht race, radiced for immediate help, she gave her position as about 400 miles North-east of the Azores. American and French aircraft are searching the area. A Royal Navy spokesman at Plymouth said Miss Baumann sent out the SOS saying she is breaking up, the signal was picked up by the Italian liner Michell Angelo, two French frigates are speeding tothe area. There is a gale in the area and Hurricane Brenda is approaching, Miss Brumann is on the Southerly route of the Plymouth to Newport race in her 30ft trimeran Koela III her dog Shatz is with her.
