Aug. 08, 1969 - The Flying Finn wins the powerboat race: Tino Makiner, the Flying Finn and his co-driver Pascoe Watson, brought Avenger Too home to Portsmouth yesterday in brilliant style, to win the Daily Telegraph and BF Round Britain Powerboat Race. They covered the final 118-mile leg from Ramsgate in 3hrs 11 mins 24.8 secs, to finish second behind Tim Powell's U.F. Makinen and his partner, overall leads from the sixth stage at Invernese, took the £10, 000 fire prize for the shortest clapsed time over the 10-stage, 1, 403-mile course, 2 hours ahead of their nearest rival UFO whose crew receive £1, 500.
