Sep. 09, 1973 - Multi-hull Craft For World Sailing Speed Record Series. A small syndicate of yachting enthusiasts have designed and built an experimental multi-hull craft with five rigid aerofoils instead of fabric sails for the World Sailing Speed Record Series, which is being held at Weymouth. The five fins, similar to aircraft wings, are vertically mounted across a flying proa - an asymmetrical double hull. The builders, mostly businessman from the West Country, hope that if conditions are right, their craft, called the Clifton Flasher II, will cover the measured half-kilometre at more than 30 knots.
