Aug. 08, 1946 - SURVIVOR NO. 1. THE BABY, BRITISH SHIP TO TAKE SALVAGE ACTION IN AMERICAN FARMER CASE. A full report has been submitted to the Admiralty dealing with the incident in the Atlantic when the 2, 039-ton Cardiff steamer Elizabete was alleged to have been deprived of her £1, 125, 000 salvage prize, the 8, 258 ton derelict U.S. food ship American Farmer. The American Farmer was abandoned after a collision in mid-Atlantic - she was taken in tow by the steam Elizabete, and is said to have been going well when the American Ranger, sister ship of the damaged vessel appeared, sent a boarding party aboard, ordered away the skeleton crew furnished by the Elizabete, hauled down the Red Ensign and hoisted the American flag. The crew of the Elizabete are to take Court action. Keystone Photo Shows:- First up the ladder - a baby in an officer's arms, photographed by one of the crew of the William J. Riddle as a lifeboat from the American Farmer lay alongside after the Atlantic collision. The baby's mother is still in the boat, to the right of the men with the boat-hook in the Stern
