Boats - Sailing - Ships
Feb. 02, 1954 - All is ready for the raising of the Empress of Canada: All is now ready for the Big Lift at Liverpool's Gladstone Dock, and the flood tide of March 6th is all that is needed to assist in raising the liner Empress of Canada from the bottom of the dock, where she has laid for over thirteen months. Photo shows a view of the Empress of Canada showing steel hawsers attached to her and stretched across the quayside. These will be used to pull her upright. On the side of the ship are steel tanks, each holding 100 tons of water, while on the side which is under water are concealed tanks which hold thousands of pounds of compressed air
