Aug. 08, 1953 - Professor Piccard makes first descent in his new Bathysphere'. : Professor Piccard the famous Swiss-Belgian physicists was accompanied by his son Jacques when he recenlty made his fisrt descent into the sea in his newly designed bathysphere Triesto, at Castellamaro di Stavbia, Naples. He hope to reach a depth of 13, 000 fot during experiment near the Islands of Fonsa to study and photograph the sea bed. During these tests - three dives of 40 feet, lasting a few minutes only were made. Photo shows the Triesta - about to make her first dive - near Naples
