Aug. 08, 1953 - Professor Piccard Makes First Descent In His New Bathysphere': Professor Piccard the famous Swiss-Belgian physicist was accompanied by his von Jacques when he recently made his first descent into the sea at Castlellamare di Stabia, near Naples, in his newly designed Bathysphere in which he hopes to reach a depth of 13, 000 fest, near the islands of Ponza to explore and photograph the sea bottom. Three dives of a few minutes each - to a depth of 40 ft. were made. Photo shows The Trienta - about to make her first test dive - near Naples
