Sep. 09, 1954 - New Liner leaves on Maiden voyage.: The new 29, 500 ton P and O liner Iberia. left Tilbury yesterday on her maiden voyage to Australia. She cost £6, 000, 000 and carries 1, 400 passengers. The first vessel ordered by the Peninsula Company in 1837 had the same name but she cost only £22, 000.
