Jun. 06, 1953 - Soviet Warship Amazes Spithead. A kid-gloved skipper yesterday brought the 12, 800-ton Russian cruiser Sverdlov into Spithead without issuing a verbal order or glancing at a chart. Nothing like it has been seen before. The Sverdlov is steered by remote control, and is the first push-button ship to anchor at Spithead.
