Jun. 25, 1954 - Soviet Whaling Flotilla Completes Eighth Antarctic Trip: The Soviet Russia Slava whaling flotilla has just returned to Odessa at the completion of its eighth trip to the Antarctic. The flotilla was winner of the Blue Riband of the Antarctic - having killed 3, 092 whales from which 28, 750 tons of oil was obtained. The vessels had to with stand heavy storms and gales.
