May 19, 1955 - 19-5-55 Aircraft-carrier returns with aircraft engine embedded in her funnel The aircraft-carrier Eagle returned to Portsmouth yesterday with a propeller-turbine aircraft engine embedded in her funnel. It belonged to a Wyvern aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm which crashed into the funnel during landing trials in the English Channel. The badly-injured pilot, Lieut. J.W.F. Jarratt, of Colnbrook, Bucks, was flown to hospital in Portsmouth by helicopter.
