1956 - Debarkation exercises: A series of new off-shore desarkation exercices are being held on the West Coast of France. The exercice nodex 8 16 shows us that supply-ships are no longer bound to natural or commercial harbours, Ingenious devices, such as delong pier and the aerial tramway can be set up anywhere along the coast and enable supply-vessels to land their cargo at strategic points. The pier has room for two ships. Four aerial tramways, also refrerred to as skyhooks, and each able to lift up to 10 tons a time, transport the cargo from the pier to the motor pool where heavy and medium trucks wait ti take the supplies to the next railhead. Photo shows the victory ship Black Dragon of New York unloading ammunition on the delong pier. In the foreground one of the sea islands which supports the gates that carry track cables
