Jun. 06, 1955 - Thirteen lost when submarine sinks after explosion: The Royal Navy submarine Sidon sank in Portland Harbour today, after a practice torpedo had blown up in the forward compartment. At the time of the explosion, the submarine was berthed alongside her depot ship Maidstone'. An Admiralty statement said today We must abandon any hope of saving any occupants of the submarine'.
