Jun. 06, 1955 - Thirteen lost when submarine sinks after explosion; The Royal Navy submarine Sidon sank in Portland Harbour today, after a practise torpedo had blown up in the forward compartment. At the time of the explosion, the submarine was berthed along side her depot ship Maidstone'. An Admiralty statement said today; We must abandon any hope of saving any occupants of the submarine'.
