Jun. 06, 1955 - 13 men missing in Submarine disaster. Submarine Sidon sinks after explosion.: The Royal Navy submarine Sidon sank after an explosion in Portland Harbour today. Thirteen officers and men were unaccounted for and were believed to be in the submerged submarine. The Sidon was tied up with other submarines alongside the depot ship Maidstone.
