May 05, 1956 - Nineteen People Picked Up After Crash In Fog In The Channel: The 6, 000 Norwegian motor Vessel, Hassel, and the Liberian tanker, Andreas V collided in thick fog four miles from Dungeness, in the channel, early today. Nineteen members of the crew of the Hassel - two women and Seventeen men leaped for their lives and were spotted swimming i the sea in the glare of a ship's searchlight. They Hassel, with buckled by the Andreas V. The Hassel with buckled plates, was listing heavily as she rolled clear after the collision. The Hassel was bashed about a quarter of a mile off Hythe. The Andrea V. dropped anchor in the Channel and is in no danger Photo Shows lifeboats standing by as the Hassel was beached near Hythe today
