1957 - He Is To Command Mayflower II On Her Unique Journey To The United States: Captain Villiers is to command the Mayflower II - on her unique voyage across the Atlantic to Plymouth, Massachusetts. The vessel has just been completed at Brixham - and is as near as possible a replica to the original vessel used by the Pilgrim Fathers in their famous journey of 160 to found the settlement of Plymouth. The Pilgrim Fathers are regarded as pioneers of American Colonisation. The Mayflower II had a decided list when she was towed from dry dock at Brixham - caused by her ballast having shifted. The ballast was adjusted - and now everything appears to be O.K. for the great day. Photo shows Captain Villiers aboard the Mayflower II
