May 05, 1957 - British Squadron to visit American waters: The British Squadron at the International Naval Review in Hampton Roads, Virginia, a June 8-17 features of the Jamestown Festival, will consist of the aircraft carrier H.M.S. Ark Royal and the two Daring Class ships H.M.S. Diamond and Duchess. All three ships are among the newer vessels of the Royal Navy. Picture shows H.M.S. Ark Royal, completed in 1955. She has an angled deck, steam catapults and the mirror sight landing aid, three British innovations adopted by the U.S. Navy. She displaces 36, 800 (long) tons and for the International Review will have five squadrons of aircraft and two helicopters. She bears a name famous in the Royal Navy since the 16th century
