Jul. 22, 1956 - The two first German U-Boats of the new German navy are currently being restored at Howaldtswerken. The U-Boats, sank in the last days of the war, were salvaged from the East Sea by a Hamburg firm. After extensive examinations by experts the Federal Defense Ministry decided to take over the two boats, paying 800, 000DM to do so. After repairs they will be used as instructional boats.
