Aug. 02, 1957 - Artist's Concept Of The Navies Proposed Nuclear-Powered Carrier (CVA (N)). CVA(N) Will Represent The Most Modern Of A Long Series Of Attack Carriers, Starting With The USS Langley In 1922, One Of The More Important Features Of The CVAN Will Be Almost Unlimited Steaking Endurance At High Speed. Operational Flexibility Will Be Increased Also, As A Result Of This Capability, Since High Speeds Can Be Maintained Without Regard To Conserving Fuel Oil; Offensive And Defensive Capabilities Will Be Improved And Replenishment Requirements Such Rejuced. The Aviation Fuel Supply Will Be Double That Of The USS Forhestal. And An Additional 4, 000 Square Feet Of Flight Deck Space Will Permit Operation Of Additional And L Aircraft. The CVAN Will Be Able To Operate More Efficiently During Unfavorable We The Conditions. The Nugle R-Powered Carrier Will Not Require Snokestacks Or Up Takes To Carry Smoke From Her Boilers. This Will Permit Island Configuration With New High-Performance Radar, And Improved Dance-Control And Other Facilities
