Sep. 09, 1958 - Navy Saves Sixty-Four from Blazing Tankers. Units of the Royal Navy - led by H.M.S. Bulwark the aircraft carrier - rescued sixty four survivors from two blazing tankers - the 10, 715 ton French vessel Fernand Gilabert and the 20, 551 ton Liberian vessel Melika after they had collided off the coast of Oman, South of the Persian Gulf. Many of the survivors were transferred by helicopter to H.M.S. Bulwark for first aid attention and then on to the British Hospital at Bahrein. The vessels were abandoned - and were taken in two by units of the R.N. Photo Shows The scene as the Melika is taken in tow by the Royal Navy
