Jun. 03, 1956 - The new Mayflower under construction Replica of the original pilgrim fathers vesse: Work is progressing on the 180 ton replica of the Pilgrim Fathers ship Mayflower at Upham's Shipyard, Brixham, when completed the vessel will leave on an eight months voyage to America and will eventually be permanently berthed at Plymouth Plantation, Massachusetts, where a replica of the first Pilgrim Fathers settlements has been erected. The vessel will is being built entirely by hand at a cost of &80, 000. Research into hull from, construction and rigging has taken five years.
