Jan. 01, 1958 - Modernization of H.M.S. Victorious to be commissioned this month.: H.M.S. Victorious, which will be commissioned of on 14th. of January was taken in hand for modernization at Portsmouth Dockyard in October, 1950. As a result she in now the world's most modern aircraft carrier and the first in the Royal navy to be fitted with all of the British-developed aids to Naval flying - the fully angeld flight deck, steam catapults and mirror desk landing aids. The work carried out on the ship, built by Vickers-Armstrong on the Yne and competed in May. 1941, has been the largest task of its kind ever undertaken in a Royal dockyard or a commercial shipyard in this country.
