Jan. 01, 1958 - Modernisation Of H.M.S. Victorious. To Be Commissioned This Month: H.M.S. Victorious, which will be commissioned on 14th. of January, was taken in hand for modernisation at Portsmouth Dockyard in October, 1950. As a result she is now the world's most modern aircraft carrier and the first in the Royal Navy to be fitted with all angled flight deck, steam catapults and mirror deck landing aids. The work carried out on the ship. built by Vickers-Armstrong on the Tyne and completed in May, 1941, has been the largest task of its kind ever undertaken in a Royal dockyard or a commercial shipyard in this country.
