Jun. 06, 1956 - The new Mayflower under constructions. Replica pf the original pilgrim fathers vessel.: Work is progressing on the 180 ton replica of the Pilgrim Fathers ship Mayflower - at Upham's Shipyard, Brixham. When completed the vessel will leave on an eight months voyage to America - and will eventually be permanently berthed at Plymouth Plantation, Massachusetts, where a replica of the first Pilgrim Fathers settlements has been erected. The vessel will is being built entirely by hand at a cost of £80, 000. Research into hull form, construction and rigging has taken five years.
