Dec. 12, 1958 - First Glimpses of Experimental guided weapons ship; Little has been officially released about H.M.S. Girdle Ness (8, 580 standard tons displacement), the British Navy's guided weapons trials ship. Formerly a landing craft maintenance ship after three years of conversion, she was commissioned in her present experimental role in 1956 when she began tests. She recently returned to Devonport, England, after a new series of trials in the Mediterranean where she tested thee Seaslug, the Royal Navy's medium range ground to air missile.
